Hello everyone! My name is La'Precious and welcome to my blog Precious Sweets. Today I am going to talk about being patient.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a patient person. I am not a patient person because I want what I want when I want it. Although, I am learning that having what I want when I want it is not the best thing for me. For example, I would love for my bakery to be open so that I can serve people my baked goods and earn money, but I am not ready. Being ready is really the key thing to remember when being patient. Being patient and waiting allows you to grow and develop into the person that you need to become before you can have what you want. When it comes to developing, it's not like morphing where it happens without your control. Developing is when you become disciplined in the decisions that you make and the things that you do. I would say that when it comes to baking there is a lot I still need to learn. Right now I just need to refresh myself on the basics. When it comes to baking a cake out of a box I can do it as long as I follow the directions. When it comes to baking from scratch that is where I mess up. I can not freestyle anything to save my life when it comes to baking! I either don't put enough in the recipe or I put too much in the recipe! Hopefully, one day I will be able to master this. I love how on Cupcake Wars the contestants are able to whip up such amazing flavors from scratch. I would love to be able to do that.
Even though I would like to open my bakery right now, I can't. As I have been planning for my bakery I realize that it will take years to open the bakery. At first I was discouraged by that because I am 21 years old and I want to be wealthy already! Although, I know that it is just not time to open up a bakery right now because there is a lot that I need to go through and experience before I can put that ''Open'' sign up.

Getting My Start and Being Able to Stand Out
Hey everybody! I hope that everyone has had a good week. Today I will be talking about getting started as a baker and being able to stand out.
Honestly, I haven't been baking on a consistent basis. The reason why I have not been baking on a consistent basis is because I have not had the money to bake. It's easy for a person to tell another person that if they want to bake then bake but when you don't have the money to bake it's hard. To bake from scratch it can be pricy depending on the kind of money you make. I want to bake from scratch but in order to bake from scratch that can be about $50 or $60. I have other expenses to pay for so in order for me to bake I would literally have to save to bake from scratch. Although, I would like to be able to make a living and bake at the same time in the future. So, I will bake but I can only bake every now and then to get my baked goods out there.
Another issue that I am having is being able to stand out. At the moment I don't want to tell what kind of pastries I plan on selling. Although, I am going to have to come up with a strategy to stand out amongst other bakers. It's not easy starting a business and being able to stand out. It's also not easy being a baker and being able to stand out and be successful because there are so many people that want to copy other people's strategies and products just so that they can make a bigger profit. I just don't like it when people can't be original and do there own thing and not try to copy other people. It's annoying and it causes unnecessary competition. I hate competition. It makes it hard for business people to work together to uplift one another. Hopefully, I will find a way to stand out and be successful without getting involved in unnecessary competition. Well, that's all for now. Be sure to read my next blog post next Monday. Be blessed!

Getting Educated in Baking
Hello everyone! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving (if you celebrate Thanksgiving) or a good weekend! So, today I will be talking about my educational background and how you all can become educated in baking.
In 2014 I applied to Forsyth Tech and enrolled in the Associate's of Applied Science Degree program in International Business. I decided to enroll in International Business because I do not want my bakery to be a small business. I would like to expand my business and make it into an international franchise. This has always been a dream of mine because as a Black woman I would love to show people in other countries that Black women and Black people can be business savvy, hard workers and successful business owners. Also, I would love for people in other countries to not only enjoy my baked goods but I want them to have a job opportunity by working in my bakery. Currently, I am still working on my degree and I should graduate either next Spring or next Summer.
In the summer of 2015 I decided to take a cake decorating class at Michael's; which is an arts and crafts store. This class was only held for one day for four weeks. Honestly, the book that I had to purchase for the class taught me how to bake better than the teacher did. I remember that I had to spend almost $100 or over $100 on supplies for the class and we hardly used them. Plus, we hardly decorated or used any real cake for the class! Even though I went through all of this for the class, I still stayed and completed the course. Although, due to this experience I have decided to not take anymore baking classes. I think that if I spend $100 on supplies I should get my money's worth in the class experience. Therefore, I will use baking books and YouTube to teach me everything that I need to know about baking.
I understand that some people have learned or do learn how to bake at home and that is completely fine. I also understand that some people can't learn at home and prefer to learn in a class room with professionals and that is completely fine too. If any of you prefer to learn how to bake at home I would advise that you use professional baking books and accurate YouTube videos. The reason why I say that you should use ACCURATE YouTube videos is because there are a lot of YouTubers that sell you garbage. Many of them give you pretty presentations of the food but when it comes to the ingredients, tools and even the baking itself, it's unrealistic! The same thing goes for some baking blogs as well. Therefore, when referring to baking books or blogs, make sure that they are accurate and realistic.
Also, if you are interested in taking a baking class or earning a degree in baking, be sure to do proper research on colleges that offer baking and pastry in degree or certificate programs. Currently, I live in North Carolina so the only schools I know of that offer baking and pastry programs are Johnson and Wales (Charlotte, NC), Guilford Tech (Jamestown,NC), Wake Tech (Raleigh, NC), Caldwell Community College (Hudson, NC), and Fayettville Tech (Fayettville,NC). If you have any questions or comments don't hesitate to leave a question or comment in the comment section below. Have a blessed day!

How It All Got Started
Hey everybody! I hope that everyone has had a lovely week and a Happy Thanksgiving (to those that celebrate it). Today I will be talking to you all about how I came up with the idea of becoming a baker.
I believe that God called me to be a baker and to own my own bakery. God called me to do this about two years ago. When I was told to become a baker and start a bakery; I began to write down the kind of bakery that I would like to open, the kind of baked goods that I would like to sell and the name that I would like to call my bakery. As a matter of fact, I am still writing out my plan! When you are planning for something you never really stop planning because changes will always need to be made and things that you want to do should always be planned before you do them.
Since I would like to start my own business I have to start baking. Although, I have a hard time baking because I believe that there is no room for my baked goods. The reason why I say that is because there are so many people baking and putting their baked goods out that it is overwhelming to me. Also, a lot of people are trying to make money off of everything so there is competition in there too. I know that in order for me to thrive as a baker I need to find a place where no one else is baking and bring in my baked goods so that I can have a market to sell to. Now that I think about it I think that it will be best for me to stop telling people what I want to do in my business and the type of business that I want to do. That way I can shock people by surprising them with what I can do and since it will be good, they will be hooked to it. So, I am going to follow this plan and see how it goes.
